Why Take a Class?
Although you can certainly learn about Python by reading books
or online tutorials, there are many benefits to joining me in Chicago for an in-person
class:
- Guided Instruction. Sure, everything you ever wanted to
know about Python can be found online if you know where to
look. However, as a long-time Python developer
and book author, I've already done massive amounts of research. When you take a
class, you're going to get a highly refined and completely up-to-date
view of modern Python programming that focuses on core concepts and
essential aspects of using the language.
- Dedicated Time. Between work and family, finding time to
learn something new isn't always easy. If you come to a class, you're
going to get a large block of time (24-36 hours) where you can focus
on Python and nothing else (just to compare, a 10-week university
quarter only contains about 25 hours of class time).
- Expert Knowledge and Experience. There is so much more to
a course than technical content. When you attend, you will also learn all sorts
of interesting things from the other participants who bring their own "expert"
knowledge about past programming projects and application
areas. One of the most inspiring things about each class is
learning about new ideas and projects that are completely different than what you're working on.
- Escape Your Coworkers. Are you the only one at the office
who likes to geek out over coding? If so, then attending a class is
an easy way to meet others who like it just as much as you.
Virtually everyone who attends my classes wants to be there and wants
to talk about geeky computer stuff.
- Better Learning. Think back on your own education--all of
those classes and teachers. What was your favorite class? Well, it
might not have been calculus, but there is a pretty good chance it
was taught in a real classroom, by a real teacher, with real
students, and had a lively classroom atmosphere that made the class
great--things that you're not going to get sitting behind your desk
staring at a screencast.
- Risk Free. I stand by my courses. If you're
unable to attend or unhappy for any reason, I will give you a full
refund. Try that with your local college or university.
